Web Resources to Find Free Photos for Websites. Student Activities, and Presentations

I’ve always believed that a well placed image can have a great impact than text alone. A well designed slide deck or activity should include images that support the text and the concepts. Images can also be great ways to start a discussion and engage students in critical thinking.

 I create most of my graphics with one of these two free resources.

Adobe Creative Cloud Express for Education (I will share more about the updates to Adobe Spark in a post soon.)Google Slides with the Unsplash Add-on. You can also just find some great and mostly free images on the Unsplash Photo Site.
You can also search for “Creative Commons” images in Google Images. Just go to Google images, search for an image and then click on “Tools” and under “Usage Rights” choose “Creative Commons Licenses”. This still typically requires a bit of additional exploration depending on how you are using and sharing the image.

Today I wanted to share a few resources designed to help anyone find high quality images for presentations, websites, activities, and more. 

My two favorites photo resources right now are Unsplash and Pixabay. I’ve also included some additional image resources at the end of this post.


Over 2 million free high-resolution images brought to you by the world’s most generous community of photographers. The Google Slides Addon is a great resource when working in Google Slides. There is also an Unsplash Chrome Extension. 


Pixabay – Stunning Free Images and More

Pixabay is a vibrant community of creatives, sharing copyright free images, videos and music. All contents are released under the Pixabay License, which makes them safe to use without asking for permission or giving credit to the artist – even for commercial purposes. There is also a Pixabay Chrome Extension.

All About Me - Heart Maps to Start the Year

I am always looking for creative ways to get to know my students. I also love creative ideas that we can use to introduce them to some of the tools we use throughout the year. The past several years I have modeled our use of Padlet with a 7 Pictures – All About Me Project. This year I was inspired by  Marwa Elkelani to try something a little different. We are going to start with some Heart Maps and get some practice with Google Drawings or Google Slides. A heart map is a visual map that uses drawing, text, shapes, and images to share feelings, people and places you love, memories, experiences, and more. These can be created on paper or digitally. I think Canva , Adobe Express , Google Drawings, or Google Slides could all be used to facilitate the creation of these digitally. I am going to focus on Google Drawings and Google Slides for this post. We use both Drawings and Slides to create during the year, so I love the idea of exploring these tools with students early in the school...
