The Auditory Learner

Written notes have always been a valuable tool to learn, but voice typing and recording your voice are powerful ways to learn and review.Voice typing in Google Docs is a quick way to add thoughts and essential concepts to your notes as you review activities or text.You can also record and share your learning by using quick recording resources like Flip, Screencastify, Soundtrap or another recording resource.

The part of the brain used to process words is quite small in comparison to the part that processes visual images. Sketchnotes and visual-notetaking are great ways to tap into how your brain processes visual information. Instead of just writing down a bunch of facts in a notebook use shapes and images to make connections as you learn and review.

One of the easiest ways to get started is by exploring vocabulary with flashcards. Students can make their own, or choose from millions of flashcard sets created by others. Students can use several study modes including multiple choice tests and study games.

Collaboration – Google Docs | Google Slides | Google Jamboard
Students can create online study groups using Google File Sharing. Students can collaborate through comments or directly. The side panel in Docs and Slides also connects to tasks, calendars, and Google Keep to organize time and resources.

Organization – Google Keep | Google Calendar
Create and share notes. Create checklists and reminders.

Video Connected to Concepts – Khan Academy | YouTube | TEDEd
Video lessons to support math, art, computer programming, economics, physics, chemistry, biology, medicine, finance, history, and more.

All About Me - Heart Maps to Start the Year

I am always looking for creative ways to get to know my students. I also love creative ideas that we can use to introduce them to some of the tools we use throughout the year. The past several years I have modeled our use of Padlet with a 7 Pictures – All About Me Project. This year I was inspired by  Marwa Elkelani to try something a little different. We are going to start with some Heart Maps and get some practice with Google Drawings or Google Slides. A heart map is a visual map that uses drawing, text, shapes, and images to share feelings, people and places you love, memories, experiences, and more. These can be created on paper or digitally. I think Canva , Adobe Express , Google Drawings, or Google Slides could all be used to facilitate the creation of these digitally. I am going to focus on Google Drawings and Google Slides for this post. We use both Drawings and Slides to create during the year, so I love the idea of exploring these tools with students early in the school...
